WPX previously drilled a vertical Niobrara test well in late 2011 that yielded the impetus for drilling our first horizontal well to gain additional data about the productivity of the formation.

Drilling operations for that well – what we call our discovery well – commenced in August 2012 during which the company successfully recovered 535 feet of continuous core. Completion operations included 17 frac stages.

Following its first 30 days of production, we announced our discovery in January 2013. We drilled a total of five Niobrara wells in 2013 and another five test wells in 2014, including our first Niobrara-focused drilling pad with multiple (2) horizontal wells.
