We’re the “new” company you’ve known for years. Sure, you’ve known us by other names, but we’re WPX Energy now. We’ve developed more than 4,700 wells on the Western Slope, making us Colorado’s largest natural gas producer. Here’s some more background on our history in the state:

1986

Our first natural gas well in Colorado went online

2001

Named changed from Barrett Resources to Williams after a $2.8 billion merger

2005

Initiated the development of purpose-built, high-efficiency drilling rigs

2007

Built a tunnel at 8,000 ft., creating new access to our Piceance acreage in higher elevations

2007

Opened a new office in Parachute – more than doubling the size of our previous office

2008

Deployed as many as 27 drilling rigs in western Colorado – our highest number ever

2011

Williams splits into two companies – the drilling unit spins off creating WPX Energy

2012

WPX officially becomes a separate, independent company focused on producing oil & gas

2013

Announced a new natural gas discovery in western Colorado’s Niobrara Shale

2014

Invested another $500 million in our Colorado operations

2015

Planning to run 3 drilling rigs and invest another $200 million in our Colorado operations
